How To Keep Fit on Holiday – 10 Holiday Health Tips

10 TIPS TO STAY HEALTHY ON HOLIDAY

Your long-awaited holiday has arrived, and you are thrilled to unwind, rejuvenate, and have a great time. However, you may think? Should I exercise and prioritise healthy eating during my holiday?

This decision is entirely yours to make, as there is no correct or incorrect choice – after all, it’s your holiday!

If you prefer not to focus on exercise or healthy eating during your time away, that’s completely acceptable. Similarly, if you wish to stay active and prioritise healthy choices, that’s perfectly fine as well. The decision is in your hands! For those interested in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle while on holiday, I have compiled 10 tips that will easily fit into your well-deserved break.

Tip 1: If you are enjoying a beach vacation, take advantage of the sand by walking (safely) with your feet in the water. Walk from one end of the beach to the other and back. Walking on the sand requires more muscle effort due to its softness. Moreover, the resistance from the sea around your ankles provides additional lower-body workout benefits.

Tip 2: If you have a pool, swimming is a fantastic low-impact cardio exercise you can enjoy. Set aside some time to spend in the pool, either swimming or walking in the shallow end. The water creates great resistance, requiring you to use your muscles to move through it. You could also try my Swimming Pool HIIT Workout ⬇️

Tip 3: Explore and Stay Fit While Sightseeing. Sightseeing is an excellent way to boost your step count. Recently, I visited Venice with my niece, Hatti, to film walking workouts. We spent the afternoon exploring several museums and taking a leisurely walk around the city. Before we knew it, we had already walked over 20,000 steps! So, if you want to have an active day, then sightseeing is a great option. And if you fancy ever doing a Virtual Walk around Venice, then (click here)

Tip 5: Take advantage of the time you spend waiting at the airport by using it as an opportunity to walk. Instead of sitting in the terminal, keep moving. Airports are usually quite large, so you can easily cover a good distance. This activity will help you feel more relaxed during your flight.

Tip 6: Turn off the alarm, enjoy your holiday to the fullest, and aim for a restful 8 hours of sleep. If you plan to stay out late, allow yourself to sleep in (after all, it’s your holiday). Getting a full 8 hours of sleep will provide you with a burst of energy for the day.

Tip 7: Drink more (and no, not talking about cocktails!) Increase your water intake, especially during summer vacations; it’s crucial to stay properly hydrated. Set a goal of drinking 8 glasses a day.

Tip 8: Kickstart your day with a breakfast packed full of goodness, as this is going to make you feel fabulous all day. So if you have a breakfast buffet, then your best choices are always going to be things like fresh fruits, yoghurt, eggs, grains, and avocado, as these are packed full of good carbs, protein and fibre.

Tip 9: Depending on where you are staying in the world, the portion sizes will vary!  So take control, and if the plates at the buffet bar are double the normal size, then simply use a smaller side plate. After all, you can always go back up for more.

Tip 10: Above all, just have fun and allow this time to have some mindfulness, switch off from day-to-day stresses and enjoy yourself, give your brain and body a rest.

Wherever your holiday takes you, soak up every moment and enjoy the adventure! Bon voyage! Lucy xx
