Why Fitness is our Best Friend

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but personally whilst I may like diamonds, I think fitness is our #1 best friend as being fit and healthy is the best gift we can give ourselves especially when we are busy mums. Being fit and healthy we can all sparkle as much as any diamond!

Before we go any further let me just say that fitness is not about having a six-pack, it is not about being able to do 100 burpees, it is simply about moving our bodies, so that is why we can all be fit no matter what our ability.

We can make a start on our journey to being fit and healthy by taking control of our physical and mental health, by doing this we can:

  • Feel our best,
  • Feel strong,
  • Feel confident,
  • Feel energised,
  • Feel happy and
  • Keep investing in our future health.

Our bodies are just like diamonds, coming in all shapes and sizes, we need to remember that we are all unique and we need to learn to love our own body, cherish it and look after it by giving it the best gift of all, fitness.

As a trainer I often get asked “What is the best exercises to do?” and my answer is “The one you enjoy the most.” I say this because as a trainer I know that if you enjoy the exercise that you do then you are more likely to continue to do it. There is nothing more demotivating than having to try and get fitter by doing exercises which you hate. Remember, exercise can be anything from dancing around your front room to your favourite tune (mine is always Abba’s Dancing Queen), doing a quick home workout or simply walking around the block!

The key is to simply move more as by doing so:

  • We help to promote those feel-good hormones known as endorphins which help lift our mood and reduce anxiety.
  • We help to strengthen our heart, which let us be honest is the most important muscle of all, and the stronger this is the more powerful it is at pumping blood around our body.

When we exercise, we give our body an energy boost. It’s a bit like if your phone is running on low battery – you then put it on charge and as a result the battery quickly goes back up to full. Well, this is just the same with exercise, every time you move you recharge your energy levels.

By giving your body the gift of fitness, it will help you be more confident and positive as you have taken control of your body, your mental health will also benefit, so stand tall and pull your shoulders back and know you have invested in your health.
